What the camera sees
When you open the studio, Solumi asks for camera access to show the live scene, calculate relative brightness and subject position, and take the Before and After photos you request. You can decline or later change camera access in iOS Settings; choosing photos and viewing saved comparisons remain available.
Live frames are processed on your device. In Portrait mode, face detection locates a region for lighting guidance; it does not identify who a person is. Live brightness readings and subject markers are not saved as a separate history. After capture or selection, a photo is shown for review. The app saves its own Before draft or comparison only when you confirm. Canceling the preview discards that unconfirmed selection.
Photos you choose
The system photo picker gives the app the images you select. This workflow does not give the app general access to your photo library. Canceling the picker leaves the current draft or comparisons unchanged.
The app creates its own image copies for comparison. Saving or deleting a comparison does not edit or delete the original in your photo library.
Drafts and completed comparisons
An unfinished Before image is saved with its creation time, Portrait or Object mode, and whether it was captured or imported. A completed comparison contains the Before and After images and these record details so you can find and reopen it. These records are stored in the app’s storage on your device.
The lighting and comparison workflow does not upload these images, camera frames, drafts, or saved pairs. Face regions used for live guidance are not added to the stored comparison record.
Keeping and deleting your images
There is no automatic expiry for saved comparisons. An unfinished Before image remains until you complete the pair or confirm Discard. Completing a pair replaces the unfinished draft with a saved comparison. In Comparisons, Delete asks for confirmation before removing the history entry and the app’s copies of the two photos.
Local deletion does not remove your original photo-library images or copies in an existing device backup. Device backups may contain the app’s stored records according to your platform settings. The app does not provide a separate backup or restore control; keep any originals you need to retain.

Lighting plans and voice notes
Lighting plans store a template title, subject mode, creation date, checklist steps and your completion marks on this device. You can reset a checklist or delete a plan. Comparison filters change the displayed list without changing saved photos.
Microphone access is requested when you choose Record a lighting note. Recording stops when you choose Stop or reaches two minutes. You can listen before saving or discard the draft. Saved notes contain the audio, title, creation time and duration in app storage; this feature does not upload them. Delete removes the saved entry and its recording. Unsaved audio uses temporary storage and may remain after an unexpected interruption until it is cleaned up. Original or backup copies are outside in-app deletion.
Notes, favorites and setup preferences
You can save comparison titles, shoot notes and favorites alongside your photo studies. Camera grid and timer preferences, lighting plans, suggested or user-entered setup details and checklist progress are saved on your device. These records may be included in platform backups. Deleting a comparison removes its app-managed images and notes; it does not remove your original photos, existing backups or exported copies.
Comparison boards you share
Comparison boards are generated on your device. Export lets you choose a side-by-side or stacked JPEG. The system share sheet lets you choose whether and where to send that copy. The destination you select may process it under its own terms. This workflow does not automatically upload your boards. Review the preview before sharing.
